Life

Prior to his musical career, he worked in his father's construction company and made in Birmingham in an apprenticeship as a hairdresser.

Rowlands first group, Lucy & The Lovers was influenced by Roxy Music and short-lived.

His next project, The Killjoys was thanks to the song Johnny Will not Go To Heaven 1977 considerably more successful. Alienated by the punk scene, Kevin Rowland founded together with Killjoys guitarist Kevin " Al " Archer of a new soul and Celtic folk -influenced group: the Dexys Midnight Runners. With this group he had his greatest successes, particularly the title Come On Eileen was a number 1 hit in Britain and America and one of the biggest hits of the 1980s. In addition, the single genotype in the UK previously had a 1980 number - one hit.

As Dexys was disbanded in 1987, Rowland recorded a solo album called The Wanderer. The album, with its three coupled- Singles was a commercial flop. His next album was released in 1999. It is a collection of cover versions like My Beauty. Despite the applause from the music critics the album could not be successfully sold again.

Due partly egomanischem and überkontrollierendem behavior Rowland had often problems with his band members, and they with him. This often led to change of members. He had to struggle with depression and cocaine dependence. By his own account Rowland plagued fear of failure throughout his musical activity.

In April 2003, Dexys of Rowland has been compiled on a tour again. The band was able to bring the much acclaimed greatest - hits disc Let's Make This Precious on the market in September 2003.

In the BBC he said in an interview in June 2005 that the group Dexys Midnight Runners have again come together in the studio recording a new album. 2012 appeared a new album of the band, now just called Dexys entitled One Day I'm Going To Soar.
