Kevin Shattenkirk

Kevin Shattenkirk ( born January 29, 1989 in New Rochelle, New York ) is an American professional ice hockey player who plays for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender since February 2011.

Career

Shattenkirk was selected at the NHL Entry Draft in 2007 in the first round at a total of 14 out of the Colorado Avalanche. After the draft, he played three years for the Boston University. In 2009 he was with his team champion of the University and College Sports League Hockey East, the following year he was appointed team captain.

After the defender with his team from the Hockey East semi-final in 2010 eliminated against the University of Maine, he signed 3 April 2010 his first professional contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Kevin Shattenkirk was considered the greatest young talent for the franchise from Denver. The short remainder of the hockey season he spent at the farm team of the avalanche, the Lake Erie Monsters, where it could reach two assist in three games.

In the 2010/11 season Shattenkirk completed his first missions for Colorado in the NHL. After good performances, he was invited to the NHL All-Star Game Super Skills Competition as part of All- Star Games. On 19 February 2011, the defender was transferred into a barter transaction by the Avalanche along with Chris Stewart and a second-round draft pick for the NHL Entry Draft in 2011 to the St. Louis Blues, Colorado received in return defender Erik Johnson, the attacker Jay McClement and a first-round draft pick for the NHL Entry Draft in 2011.

Internationally

In 2007, he won the U.S. national ice hockey team at the U18 World Youth Championship, the silver medal. In the U20 World Junior Championships he ran for his country as an assistant captain. His first race for the men's team had Shattenkirk at the Ice Hockey World Championship 2011. Defender came in all seven games of Americans, a field that scored three points before the team was eliminated in the quarter- final against the Czech team from the tournament.
