Kevin Spraggett

Kevin Spraggett ( born November 10, 1954 in Montreal ) is a Canadian chess master.

Spraggett began his professional career in the 1980s, winning the 1983 New York Open, 1985, he was Commonwealth champion. Seven times (1984, 1986, 1989, 1994, 1996, 2001, 2002 ), he won the Canadian championship eight times the Canadian Open ( 1983, 1987, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000). Spraggett was Interzonal in Taxco 1985 Fourth and thus qualified for the first time for the candidates tournament in Montpellier ( held in the same year ). He took part in the subsequent excretion cycle again and met in the first round of candidates fighting in 1988 to Andrei Sokolov, whom he defeated by tag sensational fights. Only in the quarter-finals in 1989 Spraggett was the Russians Artur Yusupov by a narrow defeat (4-5 in Québec) stopped.

Between 1986 and 2002, Spraggett who is resident in southern Europe for several years, for Canada in eight chess Olympiads, with his silver medal in 2000 is his highlight to date for the second-best individual result. His current Elo rating is 2557 (as of March 2014), which he ranked No. 4 on the Canadian rankings. His previous highest Elo rating was 2633 in January 2007.

In the British Four Nations Chess League Spraggett played from 1998 to 2004 in Slough and won the competition in 1999 and 2000.
