Key Largo is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Monroe County in the U.S. state of Florida with 10,433 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

The CDP Key Largo is also an island that belongs to the Florida Keys. It lies on the Overseas Highway (U.S. 1, SR 5 ) and is located about 145 miles from Key West and 80 miles from Miami.

History

The film Key Largo in 1948 with Edward G. Robinson and Humphrey Bogart was filmed here. Humphrey Bogart fans can admire there the original boat from the movie African Queen. North of the city lie the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park Dagny Johnson Key Largo and the Hammock Botanical State Park.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 10,433 inhabitants distributed to 8,459 households. The population density was 331.2 inh. / Km ². 93.0 % of the population were white, 2.3% African American, 0.5% Native American and 0.8 % Asian Americans. 1.5% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.8% in different ethnic groups. 23.7 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 30.0 % of all households lived in 22.0 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 59.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.20 persons and the average family size is 2.74 people.

18.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 19.3% were 20-39 years old, 35.5% were 40-59 years old and 26.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 48 years. 51.9 % of the population were male and 48.1% female.

The average annual income was $ 51,798, while 11.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 79.38 % of the population spoke Spanish 17.97 % and 2.65 % had a different mother tongue.
