The Keyence Corporation (JapaneseキーエンスKīensu ) is a global supplier of components for automation technology.

History

Founded in 1974 by Keyence Takemitsu Takizaki in Osaka. The company's name is a portmanteau Keyence ( portmanteau word ), formed from the slogan Key Of Science. Within 30 years, Keyence developed, starting from Japan, one of the world's largest manufacturers of industrial sensor and automation technology.

The building of the Keyence head office with laboratory received the 2000 " Outstanding Structure Award" of the IABSE.

Business Model

A characteristic feature of the business model from Keyence is the exclusive selling its products directly to OEMs and end users. The focus of activities is on the development and marketing of the products. The production is outsourced to subcontractors for the most part. Approx. 30 % of sales are generated by new developments.

Currently employed Keyence world claims to approximately 3,800 employees. These are distributed to the parent company in Japan, and at fifteen subsidiaries worldwide in all major industrial nations.
