Keystone is a ski resort ( " Resort " ) in the Rocky Mountains. It is located in the U.S. state of Colorado in the United States of America at 2,800 meters above sea level and belongs to the district of Summit County.

History

The area got its name in the late 19th century by attracting prospectors from Pennsylvania ( "the Keystone State ").

The actual resort was built until 1967 in relatively pristine nature by the founder Max Dercum and opened in 1970. Of present operator is the company Vail Resorts, which additional winter sports resorts in Colorado ( Vail, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek ) belong. It therefore does not have a historically grown town center, but is actually a pure holiday resort with the typical service facilities, a hotel and several apartment complexes ( " Condominiums "). Also, here is a fairly well-known conference center.

Since the location of Denver is easy to reach via Highway I-70, it also serves as a recreational area.

The town of Keystone has the status of a " Census Designated Place ".
