KGS Go Server

The KGS Go Server, initially called Igoweb and until 2006 known as Kiseido Go Server is a Go server for online games and analyzing games. The server was developed in 1999 and published in 2000 in order to allow a wider audience access to this game. The system was developed by William M. Shubert and his code is written entirely in Java.

The KGS Go Server is one of the world's largest Go server and hosts an average of over 1,500 players simultaneously. Based on the calculated by the server system ranks a list of the top 100 players will be updated regularly. Tournaments and national competitions, such as the German Federal Go- leagues are often played on KGS. Moreover held computer Go tournaments monthly.

The KGS Go Server is characterized by a strong sense of community, especially because of its Lapwing structure. Especially the games of strong players are often discussed extensively by the community.
