Khadja Nin

Khadja Nin (born 27 June 1959, Burundi ) is a musician.

Life

Khadja Nin was born as one of eight children in Burundi, the age of sixteen she went to the neighboring country of Congo (then Zaire ) in order to continue their education. There, she met her husband, with whom she for some years operated a guest house for tourists. 1980 left the pair with the common child of a civil war -plagued region, and emigrated to Belgium. There, her husband was murdered. Together with her son she was going through a difficult time. She held herself with odd jobs.

In 1985, she met music producer Nicolas Fiszman know, who encouraged her to write songs. Nin took his advice and wrote songs in French, Swahili and Kirundi. Musically settled on no direction; she combined African elements with European pop and assumed elements of the French Zouk and Latin American music. In 1991 the record company BMG was aware of her, with whom she recorded her debut album Khadja Nin. In 1997 she sang a duet with Montserrat Caballé Sailing on the album Friends For Life.

Khadja Nin is married to the former Formula 1 racing driver Jacky Ickx. She divides her time between Monaco and in Ohain at Waterloo just south of Brussels and is an ambassador for UNICEF.
