Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa

Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad Al Khalifa (Arabic: خالد بن أحمد بن محمد آل خليفة, DMG Halid b Aḥmad ibn Muhammad al khalifa, .. Born April 4, 1960) is a Bahraini diplomat and politician.

Biography

Khalid bin Ahmad is a great-grandson of the Emir of Bahrain 1868-1869, Ali ibn Khalifa Al Khalifa. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and earned first political experience as a member of the campaign team of U.S. President Jimmy Carter in the presidential election in 1980.

After his return to Bahrain, he entered the diplomatic service and was eventually appointed ambassador to Britain in 2002. In this role he was also accredited between 2002 and 2005 as ambassador to the Netherlands, Ireland and Norway. In addition, he was from 2003 to 2005 Ambassador to Sweden.

In a cabinet reshuffle, he was appointed on 26 September 2005 by King Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Khalifa ibn Salman Al Khalifa. He replaced the incumbent since 1971, Foreign Minister Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and is thus only the second foreign minister of the country since independence on 14 August 1971.
