Khalid bin Sultan
Khalid ibn Sultan ibn Abd al - Aziz Al Sa ʿ ud ( خالد بن سلطان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود / Halid b Sultan b ʿ Abd al - ʿ Aziz Al Sa ʿ ūd, .. Born September 2, 1949 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia) has 19 January. , 2001 Deputy Minister of defense in Saudi Arabia. General Schwarzkopf remarked, "I know of no better Arab officer with such military talent. " Among the soldiers and officers of the armed forces Prince Khalid is considered popular.
Life
Prince Khalid is the eldest son of Prince Sultan ibn Abd al - Aziz and the first wife Princess Munira Bint Abdul Aziz Bin Bin Musaid Jiluwi Al -Saud. Falsely that of his younger half- brother Prince Bandar is given as 2 May 1949 relating to his date of birth. This was however not born until 1950. Prince Khalid has three biological brothers: Prince Faisal, Prince Fahd and Prince Turki, and five biological sisters. He spent his childhood in the care of his father, who saw him as his successor in the Ministry of Defence. Khalid studied at the King Saud University in Riyadh. In 1968 he joined the Sandhurst Military Academy from the UK. Subsequently, he was trained in Texas in flight courses and received in 1979 a master's degree in military science from Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. In 1980, he graduated with a Master's in Political Science from Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Position in the Saudi domestic policy
Khalid, son of Prince Sultan, the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, could be King Abdul Aziz King of Saudi Arabia as the grandson of the founder. His half brother Bandar is his toughest competitor in the ambitions to the throne. Prince Sultan stands in the assessment of his sons, Khalid's military talent show, in which the son Bandar diplomatic talent. This means that the half-brothers at the political level are competitors. Khalid is the favorite for Prince Sultan, while Bandar was more appreciated by King Fahd.
The disempowerment by Khalid King Fahd strengthened the position Bandar. Prince Sultan's desire to install Khalid as his successor in the Ministry of Defence is also supported by the U.S.. Khalid is one of the biggest supporters of friendship and alliance with the United States.
Since 19 January 2001 Khalid is of assistive Minister of Defense.
The " Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation "
In 2000, Khalid founded in the United States, " Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation". The Foundation awards grants to young scientists who are concerned with the study of the ecology of the ocean, especially coral reefs. The Foundation has its headquarters in Landover, Maryland, Washington DC.
Private life
Khalid is considered modern and urbane politician who adheres to the traditional way of life of his country at the same time. Like some of the younger members of the ruling family, he advocates a fundamental loosening of the strict social life in Saudi Arabia. He advocates for political and social reforms.
He repeatedly put his social commitment with generous donations also to American foundations for medical purposes to the test.
