Khalid of Saudi Arabia

Khalid ibn Abd al - Aziz (Arabic: خالد بن عبد العزيز آل سعود, DMG Halid ʿ Abd al - ʿ Aziz Al Sa ʿ ūd; * 1912 in Riyadh, † 13 June 1982) was from 1975 to 1982 King of Saudi Arabia.

Life

Khalid was the seventh son of his father King Abd al- Aziz ibn Saud.

Khalid's mother was Princess Jawhara Bint Al- Musaid Jiluwi. Khalid's grandmother from the maternal side comes from the Al- Sudairi family. King Khalid's older full brother was Prince Mohammed Bin Abdul Aziz Al -Saud.

After an education under the care of his father and a training by senior Muslim cleric Khalid led the business of government in the region of Mecca and was able to gather so early government experience. On 29 April 1964 he was appointed by his older half-brother Faisal to the Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister. After the assassination of Faisal he followed him on 25 March 1975 to the throne and was regarded as integrity, modest and religious ruler, stands out because of these virtues of the other modern rulers of the dynasty of Saud. He loved his father and felt the desert nomads and their life together. Therefore, he is still highly regarded by many Saudis. He was not a puppet of the Americans, in contrast to his brothers on the throne. Khalid was suffering soon to a stomach illness and died on June 13, 1982 to a massive heart attack.

He called a lot of summits and conferences and tried in consensus with its neighbors and subjects to govern. One of his first acts was the peaceful settlement of the border dispute to an oasis between Saudi Arabia, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. He was one of the leading figures in the creation of the Gulf Cooperation Council in 1981. His style of government corresponded from all Saudi kings are most likely on the shura, ie advice, based principle, which is traditionally considered to be the appropriate for a good Muslim rulers. Despite his good-natured and peaceful occurrence King Khalid refused any kind of democratization of the political system ( a constitutional monarchy ) on principle.

Was succeeded by his half-brother Fahd ibn Abd al - Aziz.

King Khalid was married twice.

  • Sons: Prince Abdullah ( second son ) and Prince Mishal
  • Daughters: Princess Nura, Princess Mishail and Princess Bandari

After King Khalid of Riyadh airport and the military town of King Khalid Military City are named.
