Khalil Abi-Nader

Khalil Abi- Nader, Khalil also Abinader, (December 6, 1921 in Mtein, Lebanon; † 13 June 2009) was a Maronite Archbishop of Beirut archeparchy.

Life

Khalil Abi- Nader came from the well-known Lebanese family Abi Nader, and was in the government of Lebanon mountain in place Mtein (District al - Mitn ) born. On June 29, 1947 at the age of 25, he was ordained a priest in the archeparchy Beirut. He was a teacher at the school La Sagesse in Beirut, and later its director in Beirut and Jdeidé.

On April 4, 1986, he was appointed Archbishop of archeparchy. The solemn ordination took place on 18 May 1986. The principal consecrator was the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and the whole East Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir. As co-consecrators served the bishops Chucrallah Harb and Roland Aboujaoudé. As Archbishop Abi- Nader acted as Mitkonsekrator at the ordinations of Abdallah Bared, Antoine Torbey, Paul -Emile Saadé and Béchara Raï. At 74, he gave up his post on June 8, 1996.

Abi- Nader has been repeatedly kidnapped, but released on intervention by different politicians again and again. Together with the Imam Musa al-Sadr, he was committed to an understanding of both religions in Lebanon. During the military conflict between the Lebanese Forces (FL) and the regular Lebanese army he worked to the advantage of his life for fire breaks. He was also a key figure in Lebanese society for a receipt of the Francophonie in Lebanon.
