Khan Abdul Wali Khan

Khan Abdul Wali Khan ( born January 11, 1917 in Charsadda, † January 26, 2006 in Islamabad ) was a Pakistani politician and leader of the Awami National Party ( ANP). He was the son of Badshah Khan.

Life

He spent his school days at the Azad Islamia. He was the first student of the school and was admitted in 1922 at school. In 1933, he studied at Cambridge, but had to stop the study due to eye problems. Already in 1942, he began to become politically active, he was therefore arrested in 1943 and a short time later released. Wali Khan was in 1947 a member of the Indian Congress Committee. He was the secretary of the North -West Frontier Province (NWFP ), for which he renamed Pakhtunkhwa championed. He was arrested again on 15 June 1948, sent to prison and was then imprisoned five years. Wali Khan was elected president of the National Awami Party (NAP ) in 1968 and shortly thereafter arrested again. In 1969, he was released again. In 1970 he became a member of the national and provincial assembly. After he escaped four assassination attempts, he was arrested again in 1975 and his party NAP prohibited. In addition, he was accused of the murder of Hayat Sherpao. Wali Khan was released from prison in December 1977. Until 1991, Khan was politically active and president of the Awami National Party. Later, until his death, he was a mentor of his party.
