Khao Phra Wihan National Park

National Park Khao Phra Viharn ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ เขา พระ วิหาร ) is a national park in northeast Thailand, the so-called Isaan. The 130 km ² large park was established on 20 March 1998. Its name comes from Khao Phra Wihan ( Thai: ปราสาท เขา พระ วิหาร, Khmer: ប្រាសាទព្រះវិហារ, Prasat Preah Vihear ), a Hindu temple of Khmer, which is on Cambodian territory.

Location

The National Park is located in the Dangrek Mountains along the border with Cambodia to the southeast of the district ( Amphoe ) in the province of Si Saket Kantharalak across to the counties Khun Nam and Nam Yuen in the province of Ubon Ratchathani.

Flora and Fauna

Plant species

The park is largely covered by dipterocarp forest and dry mixed forests. The forests consist of Pterocarpus macrocarpus ( "Burma Padauk " ), Afzelia xylocarpa, Shorea obtusa, Shorea siamensis and the Asian Jatoba ( Xylia kerrii ).

Species

The park is home to wild boar, among other things, long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), barking deer, sambar deer, Elsterraupenschmätzer ( Hemipus picatus ), Pycnonotus atriceps from the family of Bulbul, Flaggendrongo ( Dicrurus paradiseus ), Small Mungo's.

Attractions

  • Some smaller waterfalls: Poy - channel ( ช่อง โพย ), Huai Ta Waterfall ( น้ำตก ห้วย ตา ) and Sai Yoi Waterfall ( น้ำตก ไทร ย้อย )
  • Khun Sri Cave and Khun Sri Waterfall ( น้ำตก และ ถ้ำ ขุน ศรี ) - residence of Luang Sri, who had been appointed in October 1940 by the Thai " Fine Arts Department " as the administrator of Prasat Preah Vihear.
  • Pha Mor I- Daeng ( ผา มอ อี แดง ) - Viewpoint near the ascent to the Preah Vihear Temple.
  • Prasat Ton Tuan ( ปราสาท โดน ต ว ล ) - small Khmer temple tower, about 300 meters north of Prasat Preah Vihear.
  • Sa - Trao ( สระ ตรา ว ) - several small ponds ( Baray ) at the foot of the mountain. Near the quarry from which the material for the Prasat Preah Vihear was situated won.
