Khaqani

Afzal ad - Dīn Ibrāhīm badil ibn ʿ Alī ibn ʿ Usman Chāqānī Schirvānī (Persian افضل الدين ابراهيم بديل بن على بن عثمان خاقانى شروانى, DMG Afzal ad - Dīn Ibrāhīm badil b ʿ Alī b ʿ Usman Haqani Širvānī, .. * 1121 or 1122 in Shirvan; † 1190 in Tabriz ) was a prominent Persian poet.

Chāqānī was a famous poet and master of the qasida, who was born the son of a carpenter family in Melgem near Şamaxı. He lost his father at a young age and was raised by his uncle Kafi ad - Dīn ʿ Umar, a physician and astronomer at the court of Shirvanshahs. Chāqānīs mother was a Christian with Georgian roots.

In his youth he wrote under the nom de plume " Ḥaqā ʾ IQI ". After he had been called to the court of the Shah of Shirvan, he chose the name " Chāqānī " to write ( the Shah led the title " Khaqan "). However, he soon fled from the stifling environment of the palace and went on a journey through the Middle East. His travels inspired him to his most famous work, the Masnawī " Tuhfat al - Iraqain " ( تحفت العراقين, Tuhfat al - ʿ Irāqain, " A Gift of both Iraq "). "Both Iraq " was the name for Mesopotamia and Persia. He also wrote the qasida " The arc of Madain " ( ايوان مداين ), in which he describes his impressions of the remains of the Sassanian palace at Ctesiphon Seleucia-.

When he returned home, it broke with the court of the Shah of Shirvan and Achsitān I. ordered his arrest. In prison Chāqānī wrote his Lamentations, which are called " Ḥabsiyyāt " ( " Prison Poems "). After his release, he moved with his family to Tabriz. There first died, his young son, his daughter and his wife. Alone, also died soon Chāghānī in Tabriz. He was buried at the cemetery in Surchab poets in Tabriz.

Chāqānīs Divan includes some Arabic poems and a collection of 60 letters.
