The Kharkiv International Airport (Ukrainian: Міжнародний аеропорт " Харків ") (IATA: HRK, ICAO code: UKHH ) is one of the major airports of Ukraine. It is located in eastern Ukraine twelve kilometers south of the center of Kharkov, the second largest city in the country, in the municipality Comintern. Its capacity is after reconstruction in 2008-2011 more than 1600 passengers per hour. The planned number of passengers is 800,000 people annually, with a maximum capacity of the airport of two million passengers per year.

History

The construction of the old terminal in the style of Socialist Classicism began in 1951. The opening took place together with the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the unification of Ukraine and Russia in 1954. 1958 a trolleybus line was built from the airport to the city center.

In preparation for the 2012 European Football Championship, the Kharkiv served as the venue, the airport, a new terminal was completely renovated and built so that can now take off and land, aircraft types such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.

Destinations and airlines

Eleven airlines offer at Kharkov airport destinations to 15 other airports in 9 countries (including Ukraine). In German-speaking Vienna International Airport is served by Austrian Airlines in Austria.

Further international destinations is the airport of Thessaloniki in Greece ( served by the Astra Airlines ) and objectives in the Caucasus: The Baku airport (Azerbaijan ) is served by the UTair Ukraine, Yerevan ( Armenia ) Airport is served by the Armavia and the Tbilisi airport (Georgia) of the Georgian Airways.

In Russia, three airports are served. The airport Moscow -Vnukovo of the UTair, the airport Sheremetyevo of Aeroflot and the Saint Petersburg airport from the UTair Ukraine. In Turkey, two airports are served. The Istanbul- Sabiha Gökçen of the Pegasus Airlines and the Antalya airport from the UTair Ukraine. Furthermore, are served two goals in the United Arab Emirates. The Sharjah Airport by Air Arabia and Dubai Airport from Fly Dubai. The Sharm el -Sheikh airport in Egypt is served by the Windrose Airlines and Ukraine International Airlines.

Within Ukraine, the airport Boryspil by Ukraine International Airlines is operated and the airport Zhulyany of the UTair Ukraine.

Passenger numbers

The number of passengers has increased tenfold in the last decade. A slump in passenger numbers there were in 2009. In 2011, however, the passenger traffic in 2008 has already reached nearly again. The heights passenger numbers in 2012 can be explained by the European Football Championship 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
