Kharkovchanka

The Charkowtschanka (Russian Харьковчанка, dt: the Charkowerin, plural Charkowtschanki ) was a tracked vehicle that served the Soviet scientific expeditions in Antarctica as a means of transport.

The Charkowtschanki were designed by the Kharkiv Design Office of Mechanical Engineering ChBKM ( ХБКМ ) AA Morozov, and built since 1958im Kharkov transport and heavy machine-building plant # 75 Malyshev.

Basis of the design was the heavy chain tug AT- T for the turn many parts of the armor were used T-54. In the cab with the GPS devices were seats for at least six members of the expedition. The cabin was divided into several departments, including a community room, the radio room, galley and toilet. In order to carry out repairs without having to leave the vehicle, you could reach the engine through a hatch. A Charkowtschanka weighed 20 tons, could be up to 5 t cargoes on board and pull sleds with a load of 40 t. Since September 1975, the development Charkowtschanka -2 was built.
