Khenemetneferhedjet I

Chenmetneferhedjet ( I. ) (also Chenmet - nefer - hedjet ) was an ancient Egyptian queen of the 12th dynasty. She was the wife of Sesostris II (reigned about 1901-1882 BC) and the mother of Senusret III. (reigned about 1882 BC to about 1862 BC).

About the origin of the queen is not known. She wore, among other things, the title " king consort ", " Queen Mother " and the otherwise very rare in the Middle Kingdom, entitled "The says something that is then made for them ." Chenmetneferhedjet is probably in Lahun, was buried next to the pyramid of her husband Sesostris II in a separate grave. In Dahshur, in addition to the Sesostris - III.- pyramid there is still next to a fake pyramid for them. This had a small mortuary temple, which was decorated with reliefs and a chamber that is much too small for a funeral but.

In research, her name caused some confusion, because Chenmet - nefer - hedjet is attested as a title of queens. This designation follows at Chenmetneferhedjet in many inscriptions of the name " Weret " The Elderly. This gave reason to believe that Chenmetneferhedjet was the title and Weret the proper name of this queen. The relief finds in their appearance pyramid at Dahshur, however, show that Chenmetneferhedjet in fact was her name, because this name is sometimes the only one there. Weret is therefore to be understood as a middle name or nickname.
