Khentii Province

The Khentii Aimag (Mongolian Хэнтий Аймаг ) is an aimag ( province ) of Mongolia, located in the northeast of the country on the Russian border.

Geography

The neighboring aimags are Darkhan Uul in the northwest, Töw in the West, Gobi Sümber the southwest, Dorno Gobi in the south, Sükhbaatar to the southeast, and Dornod in the east. The border with Töw is interrupted by the city Baganuur, an administrative exclave of Ulan Bator.

In the northwest of the aimags is the eastern part of the Khentii Mountains, to the southeast the landscape merges with the ostmongolischen steppes. The mountain Burchan Khaldun in Khan Khentii protected area is considered sacred. He is considered the birthplace of Genghis Khan and one suspects here also its grave.

South of Burchan Khaldun stems from the Cherlen, which crosses the south of the aimag to the east after a detour via the Töw Aimag. A little further east is the source of the Onon. In the northeast of the Aimages is the Baldsch - Onon National Park.
