Kheta River

The Cheta as left, northern source river of Chatanga

The Cheta (Russian Хета ) is the 604 km long, left-side and south-western source of the river in the north of Siberia Chatanga (Russia, Asia) and runs in the former Taimyr Autonomous District in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Course

The Cheta occurs just north of the Arctic Circle in the lonely Putoranagebirge, the northwestern part of the Central Siberian Uplands, by the confluence of Ajan and Ajakli. She leaves the mountains to the north and then flows into the south of the Taimyr peninsula located Taimyrsenke first west and then mainly to the northeast. Finally, it unites itself with settling Kresty ( Кресты ), about 15 km south-west of the village Chatanga located, with the Kotui to Chatanga. The latter leads to the northeast in the Laptev Sea, a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean.

Ice conditions and navigability

The river is frozen from late September / early October to late May / early June. In the ice-free period, it is suitable for shipping.
