Chimik -SKA Nawapolazk (Russian Химик - СКА Новополоцк ) is a Belarusian ice hockey club from Nawapolazk who plays in the Belarusian Extraliga. The club was founded in 1993 and plays its home matches at the Ice Palace of Culture and Nawapolazk, which offers 1,400 spectators.

History

The first hockey game in Nawapolazk was held in February 1960, with a team of Borowucha and Nawapolazk faced. It was not until four years later Neftjanik Nawapolazk first took part in the fourth division of the Byelorussian SSR. Sponsor and namesake of the team was the local refinery. A year later promotion to the third division.

In 1974, the team played under the name Chimik and in 1990 Master of the Byelorussian SSR. In the same year the team won the Cup and trade union was allowed so that at the second division of the Soviet Union, today Wysschaja league attend. In August 1994, the ice and the Palace of Culture was opened in Nawapolazk, which is the home ground of the club ever since. Between 1994 and 2003 the club played under the name Polimir Nawapolazk. Namesake and main sponsor was the local Polymir Group.

Over several years, the team took part in the East European Hockey League. In both 1996 and 1997, the first team of the club won the Belarusian Championship and therefore took part in the following years each at IIHF Continental Cup.

In the 2003 /04 season the club returned to his old name Chimik before playing under its present name Chimik -SKA since 2004.

Achievements

The club won twice so far, the Belarusian Championship - 1996 and 1997.
