Khlong Yai District

Amphoe Khlong Yai ( Thai: อำเภอ คลองใหญ่ ) is a district ( Amphoe ) of the province ( Changwat ) Trat in the east of the central region of Thailand. It lies in the east of the province.

Geography

The county is separated by the Cardamom Mountains from a narrow strip of land along the coast to the Gulf of Thailand, Cambodia.

Neighboring districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Mueang Trat Province Trat, Koh Kong Province in Cambodia and the Gulf of Thailand.

History

In the past, the area of the province Patchanta Khiri Khet was (now Koh Kong). In contrast to other parts of Koh Kong this land during the reign of King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) by the Franco- Siamese Treaty of Siam, where in exchange for territories established east of the Mekong and provinces in western Cambodia as Battambang, Siam Nakhon and Sisophon.

In 1912, Khlong Yai initially as a small district ( King Amphoe ) was established, in 1959, he was upgraded to a full Amphoe.

Management

Amphoe Laem Ngop is ( tambon) divided into three communities, which in turn in 20 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

There are two small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Khlong Yai ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล คลองใหญ่ ) consists of parts of the tambon Khlong Yai,
  • Hat Lek ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หาด เล็ก ) consists of the whole tambon Hat Lek.

There are also two administrative organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ).
