Khmilnyk

Chmilnyk (Ukrainian Хмільник; Russian Хмельник / Chmelnik, Polish Chmielnik ) is a city in Ukraine with about 25,000 inhabitants. It is the administrative center of Rajons Chmilnyk, located in the northwestern part of the Vinnytsia Oblast on the Southern Bug and is one of the oldest towns in Podolia.

History

The first mention Chmilnyks dates back to 1362. 1443 was the place of a town.

From 1434 to 1793 ( with interruption by the Turkish occupation from 1672 to 1699 ) the city was a part of Poland, came to Russia and later the Soviet Union, since 1991 she has been a part of Ukraine. Since 1957, the city is a district-free city under Oblastverwaltung.

In the 2nd World War, the city was badly damaged. After the war ended in 1934, discovered mineral springs were upgraded to a spa.

In the southeast, Kuryliwka (then Kuryłówka ) was born in 1860, the Polish pianist Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
