Kholodny, Magadan Oblast
Cholodny (Russian Холодный ) is an urban-type settlement in Magadan Oblast (Russia) with 1062 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The village is located about 380 km as the crow NNW of Oblastverwaltungszentrums Magadan in Kolymagebirge, on the right bank of the Bereljoch, a left tributary of the left Kolyma river source Ajan - Jurjach.
Cholodny belongs to Rajon Sussumanski and is 14 km west-southwest of the administrative center Sussuman. The settlement is the seat and only town in the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Cholodny.
History
The settlement arose from a 1941 furnished prospectors camp. Since 1962 Cholodny has the status of an urban-type settlement. The name stands for the Russian cold.
