Chomein (Persian خمین ) is a city in central Iran in the province of Markazi and has just over 69,000 inhabitants (as of Extrapolation 2012), according to a census of 1978, 25,000 inhabitants, in the 1940s were counted 7,038 residents.

The place name to have originated in the 7th century. The translation of the two pitchers is an allusion to the conquest of Persia, in the Muslim conquerors two huge jugs were served, one with juice, the other with alcohol from grain.

Chomein is the birthplace of Ruhollah Musawi, called Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Revolution and Supreme Leader of Iran.
