Khukhan District

Amphoe Khukhan ( in Thai อำเภอ ขุขันธ์ ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Si Saket. The Si Saket province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, the Isaan.

Amphoe Khukhan borders the following districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Prang Ku at the Wang Hin, Phrai Bueng, Khun Han and Phu Sing in the province of Sisaket, as well as to the Amphoe Buachet and Sangkha the province of Surin.

Before Thailand was reorganized in 1945 for administrative and logistical reasons, Khukhan was the capital of the province. Even today it is regarded as the historical center of Sisaket. In addition Khukhan is the second largest district of the province in terms of population. A further indication of the former importance is the fact that many roads Khukhan with all major towns in the province connect directly.

Amphoe Khukhan is divided into 22 communes ( tambon), which in turn in 279 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

There is a small town ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Khukhan Mueang ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เมือง ขุขันธ์ ), consisting of parts of the tambon Huai Nuea.

There are also 22 " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.

Note: The missing numbers refer to the tambon which now belong to Phu Sing.
