Khun Lo

Khun Lo ( † 780) was the founder of the Empire of Rajadharani Sri Sudhana in what is now Luang Phrabang, which later rose under King Fa Ngum, along with other principalities in the Kingdom of Lan Chang. He is also the founder of the present city of Luang Phrabang.

Khun Lo itself to be descended of Khun Borom, a legendary figure from the early history of Tai in southern China. According to legend, Khun Borom came in Mueang Than, a place of heavenly spirits to earth, and begat a son there, Khun Lo. This was named after the dynasty that later both Rajadharani Sri Sudhana and its successor Lan Chang mastered. He led his people from southern China to the area of today Phrabang Luang and settled there.

Over the subsequent rulers of Sri Rajadharani Sudhana, of which there is to be up to 22, little is known. The last male representative of this line was probably Phraya Langa, whose successor Suvanna Hong Kamp 1316 established a new line of Khun Lo Dynasty.
