Kia Clarus (1996-1998)

The Kia Clarus was the Korean manufacturer Kia Motors is a car model. It was based on the model offered in Korea Kia credo. The Clarus Group in Europe first offered at a mid-range model. The model was produced from summer 1996 to spring 2001, then replaced by the Kia Magentis.

History

The Kia Clarus was introduced in July 1996 in Europe. Model was the Mazda 626, with whom he shared technical and body parts. He differed only marginally from the Korean model credo. It was available with either a 1.8 -liter engine ( SLX ) with 116 hp or a 2.0 -liter engine ( GLX ) with an output of 133 hp.

The first generation of Clarus was produced only as a notchback sedan. Visually, the GLX and SLX models distinguished by the design of the radiator grille. Both trim levels possessed equipped with dual airbags, electric front windows and central locking. The GLX features included in addition a chrome grille, rear power windows, Veloursitze and fog lights. An anti -lock braking system was also offered shortly after the launch, along with the standard equipment. Air conditioning and a leather interior were among the few extras.

The 2.0 -liter engine from the Mazda 626 GT made ​​in Clarus due to stricter emissions standards 7 hp less. The design of the interior was also derived from the 626. The 1.8 -liter engine, however, was developed in-house. The T8D engine was the (presumably only ) Motor T-Series and came in July 1996 with the Clarus on the market. The 1.8 -liter engine was driven by a toothed belt and was the only free -running four-stroke engine in the former KIA program. Facelift

In May 1998, Kia introduced the revised Clarus on the market, with its internal model abbreviation GC was maintained.
