Kia Shuma

Kia Shuma Hatchback I (1997-2001)

The Kia Shuma was a compact class automobile manufacturer Kia Motors. It gave him both a hatchback as well as a notchback version.

The Kia Shuma was produced in South Korea Hwaseong in two series:

  • Shuma I; October 1997 to December 2001
  • Shuma II; May 2001 to August 2004

Both series versions were available in different fittings and engine variants, but there was little technical differences, which is underlined by the consistent internal model identification FB. Also American crash tests show little difference between the two models, the U.S. NCAP tests, even measured an overall better result for the Shuma I. Optical differences were mainly in the headlight shape and a significantly upgraded and also better insulated interior. The basic equipment of the Shuma II was slightly above the upper of its predecessor. In addition, he was from 2003 standard with part leather interior and about the same time with an optional two-tone full leather equipment available.

As part of an extensive outfit appreciation in April 2003 was the 1.6 -liter exchanged against a 1.8 liter engine and not offered the notchback version in Germany. This was prepared according to the model setting 2004 IzhAvto licenses on. After a break due to debt since May 2009, the production will be resumed in August 2011.

In addition, the nameplate " Shuma " was present only at the rear of Shuma I, the Shuma II there was only a small sign on the left side of the trunk lid. Technical differences related primarily to the engine:

Shuma II

2004 Kia Shuma II was replaced in Germany by the Hyundai Elantra -based Kia Cerato.

The KIA T8D engine was developed in-house by the manufacturer. The (probably only ) Motor T-Series was first offered in 1995 Kia Clarus. His D in shortcuts pointing to the double, single overhead camshaft (DOHC ), while the 8 the displacement (1.8 ) described (see motor data). It is driven by a toothed belt, however, is the only free runner in the former KIA program. He accelerated the Shuma I by three seconds faster within 10.5 s to 100 kph, the Shuma II the basic engine took about two seconds. The engine was certified ( in town 11.9 L) by ADAC good performance, light rough running and significantly high consumption. 1999 Direkteinspritzerversion of the motor was presented ( T8D GDI ), but not published due to the insolvency of the manufacturer. 2010 appear the first GDI engines in the Hyundai / KIA motor program (see ).
