Technology

The Sportage has a self -supporting body with independent suspension and depending on the model front - or all-wheel drive. At its market launch in early 2005 two petrol engines were offered: first, a 2.0 - liter four- cylinder with 104 kW (141 hp), five-speed manual and optional front - or all-wheel drive and the other a 2.7 -liter V6 with 129 kW (175 PS), four-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive.

Also held in the autumn of 2005 a 2.0 -liter common-rail diesel engine with 83 kW (113 PS) without a particulate filter as in the Kia Carens use. This was offered in connection with a five- speed gearbox or four- speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. After a review of the diesel made ​​by model year 2009 103 kW ( 140 hp). In addition, the maximum torque increased to 305 Nm, a diesel particulate filter part of the standard specification and the base version was equipped with front wheel drive and a new six- speed manual transmission. The optional automatic was available only for the version with front wheel drive. Even with a renewed increase in power to 110 kW ( 150 hp ) for the 2009 model year, the consumption of 7.0-8.0 liters is maintained at 100 km. The automatic is still only for the 2WD model.

Facelifts

Besides the two revisions in 2007 and 2008, there were already late 2006/early 2007 a ​​modification. The trim strip above the number plate was widened and complemented by a chrome application.

2007

As of June 2007, the Kia Sportage for Europe was made by Kia Motors Slovakia in Žilina Slovak. Was also set for the model now also a seven-year warranty, which was first introduced for the Kia cee'd. The technical improvements related to a more direct power steering, a tighter suspension with standard 16- inch alloy wheels for reduced body roll and larger front brake discs for improved delay. By enlarged exterior mirrors and changed seals on the glass sunroof also the reduced noise. Compared to the previously gerfertigten model the towing capacity increased by 12.5 % to 1,800 kg. The previous engine versions were unchanged, the equipment lines received new designations: the LX version is now called Cup and the EX version Champ.

For the 2009 model year, the Sportage a more extensive facelift has undergone and arrived in September 2008 in the trade.

The changes to the exterior included a new headlight on the front end, a revised grille, round fog lights and now a revised bumper with implied underride guard. At the rear, the lights graphic was redesigned and modified the bumper, also the lower part of the body is covered with black plastic. A twin tailpipe also part of the standard package, the alloy wheels have been modified again.

The biggest change in the engines covered the Diesel, whose power has been increased by 10 to 150 hp. Inside, find a thicker steering wheel rim, a new audio system with radio, CD player and USB-/AUX-Anschluss and a switchable passenger airbag use.

Kia Sportage (2010-2014)

At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010, the third-generation Kia Sportage was introduced. This is technically identical to the Hyundai ix35, therefore partially whose engines are used in the Sportage. It is a 120 kW (163 bhp) petrol engine and a 2.0 - liter common- rail diesel engine with 100 kW (136 hp). Since the 2011 model year, the diesel version is also available with 135 kW (184 hp).

Production began in June 2010 at the Slovak Kia plant in Zilina, the launch took place in early August 2010.

The new model falls longer, wider and lower than its predecessor, also the wheelbase has been extended. The design is based on the new style of the brand with a large, trapezoidal grille, almond-shaped headlights and more prominent upscale brand logo.

Design are typical of the addition, the light edge in the lower door area and an inwardly curved surface above the rear license plate. Other characteristics are the flared wings, large fog lights, a wide C-pillar, as well as running all around plastic trim at the bottom edge of the body. The contours of the bonnet are emphasized, and the horizontally arranged rear lights extend into the boot lid.
