Kidal Region

The Kidal region located in north- eastern Mali. At 151 450 square kilometers live 67,638 people. Thus, the region is more than twice as large as Bavaria; However, it has only as many inhabitants as Flensburg.

The Kidal region was formed after an uprising in 1991. Most residents are Tuareg. They speak Tamascheq.

Rivers or paved roads do not exist. Animal husbandry, trade and crafts are the main industries. The main cities are Kidal and Tessalit. However, many residents are still nomads.
