Kiichi Miyazawa

Kiichi Miyazawa (Japanese宫 泽 喜 一, born October 8, 1919 in Fukuyama, † 28 June 2007 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese politician ( LDP). He was from 1991 to 1993 the 78th Prime Minister of Japan.

Life

Kiichi Miyazawa studied law at the University of Tokyo. In 1942, he joined the civil service in Japan and has been working for the Ministry of Finance. In 1953 he was elected to the Upper House of the Japanese Parliament; In 1967 he was a deputy in the politically influential House of Commons, as he was able to take his father's seat.

Miyazawa worked in several important public offices, for example, as the Minister of International Trade and Industry (1970-1971), as Secretary of State (1974-1976), as Director of the Economic Planning Office (1977-1978) and as Chief Cabinet Secretary ( 1984-1986 ). In the government Noboru Takeshita 1987 he was Minister of Finance, but was forced to resign in the wake of the Recruit scandal.

On November 5, 1991, he was the 78th Prime Minister of Japan. During his tenure as head of government, a law was passed which allowed the deployment of soldiers of the Self-Defense Forces to UN peacekeeping missions abroad. He campaigned for better relations with Japan's neighbors and was the first Japanese prime minister, who acknowledged that the Japanese military Asian women as " comfort women " forced them to serve as forced prostitutes for Japanese soldiers. Kiichi Miyazawa was a member of the Trilateral Commission, an initiative of David Rockefeller. He was Chairman of the 19th G8 summit held from 7 to July 9, 1993 in Tokyo.
