Kiideva

Kiideva ( German Kiwidepäh ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Ridala ( Ridala vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.

Population and location

The village has 35 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and is located on the peninsula Puise ( Puise pool saar ), 16 kilometers from the county capital of Haapsalu. To the south lies the Matsalubucht ( Matsalu Laht ).

The place belongs to the National Park Matsalu. On the beach there is a viewing platform. A hiking trail leads to the peninsula along the place Puise.

Court

The court of Kiideva arose during the Swedish rule over Estonia. The oldest written reference dates from the year 1614. Last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the Baltic German Hugo Baron Toll. The two-story wooden mansion dates from the late 19th century. A special feature of the scale-like clamping cladding the exterior facade Represents the mansion served since 1967 as an elementary school. Today is located on the premises with its park a nature and arts center.

Port

To the south of the farm is located on the Baltic coast, the small harbor Kalaküla. Since 2000, a village museum shows the history of the place. The inhabitants have traditionally lived off fishing in the waters of Väinameri and on the island of Saaremaa. In the 1950s, the place was a fishing kolkhoz.
