Kiirunavaara

The Kiirunavaara (Mountain of the ptarmigan, also Kirunavaara ) is one of two Ore and namesake of the northern Swedish town of Kiruna.

The mountain is 749 meters high. At his high-quality iron ore is mined with high magnetite content through the iron ore mine of Kiruna. The deposit has an iron content of 60 to 70 percent, currently in 1150 meters depth. The length of the shaft system corresponds to the distance from Berlin to Heidelberg.

The other ore of the Kiruna iron deposit is adjacent Luossavaara, its degradation, however, ended in 1985. In both mountains, the apatite iron ore between layers of syenite porphyry and quartz porphyry and has an iron content of about 60 percent.
