Kikla

Sha'biyah

Kikla (Arabic ككلة ) is a Libyan town of about 10,000 inhabitants.

Location

Kikla located in Nafusagebirge and belongs to Munizip al - Jabal al - Gharbi. The city is located about 150 kilometers southwest of the capital Tripoli, east of the regional center Yafran and west of the commercial center Gharyan.

History

In his travelogue about North Africa in the years 1849 to 1855 Heinrich Barth Kikla mentioned as eponym for a district. The inhabitants of the district had participated in the resistance against the Turks, thereby suffered the very villages and many homes had been destroyed. 1917 noted that Libya Handbook of the British Navy, Kikla is a group of villages with stone houses and the capital of a county with a total population of 8000 people.

Battles in 2011

Kikla was during the civil war in Libya several times the scene of fighting between the government and rebels. On 14 June 2011 Kikla was taken by the insurgents.
