Kilifi

Kilifi is a town of about 31000 inhabitants in the province of Coast in Kenya. Kilifi is the capital of the district of the same name. Kilifi is located about 80 km north of Mombasa on the highway B 8

Economy

To Kilifi around sisal agave and cashew nuts are grown. However, the city lives especially by tourism. In addition to numerous hotels Kilifi has beaches and a marina.

Traffic

Kilifi is located on the highway B 8 several times daily buses to Mombasa and Malindi, twice a day there is a bus to Nairobi.

Infrastructure

In Kilifi, there are several banks, a post office, a petrol station, markets, hotels, restaurants, and shopping. In addition to the Kilifi District Hospital, the city has several schools, the Pwani University College and an orphanage.

Attractions

Just south of Kilifi, increased over the bay, lies the ruins Mnarani consisting of the remains of a Swahili settlement dating from the 14th century. Visible are the remains of the city wall, a well-preserved large mosque, a smaller mosque from the 16th century and various stone tombs, including a large pillars grave.
