Kim Borg

Kim Borg ( born August 7, 1919 in Helsinki, Finland, † April 28, 2000 in Fredensborg - Humlebæk, Denmark) was a Finnish opera singer ( bass), composer and singing teacher. He is considered the forerunner of the significant generation of Scandinavian basses ( Martti Talvela, Matti Salminen, Aage Haugland ). In addition to Boris Christoff he was internationally the most sought after Boris Godunov his generation.

Life

Borg studied singing at the Sibelius Academy ( and incidentally Biochemistry) and debuted in 1947 as a concert singer in the Finnish capital. His operatic debut took place in 1951 in Aarhus instead, as Colline in La Bohème, the classic bass debut game par excellence (including those of Christoff, Ruggero Raimondi and Willard White). From then on, he stood on all platforms ( northern) Europe, then made ​​his debut in 1959 at the Metropolitan Opera as Count Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro ) and sang the 1961 Boris in Moscow. From 1964 to 1970 he sang at the Hamburg State Opera. In 1980, he took leave of the stage.

Since 1972 and until 1989 he held a post as a singing teacher at the Royal Academy of Music, Copenhagen. He also composed vocal music.

Borgs solid, vital voice and his unsentimental and lard -free way is there to study, among others, in the recording of Messa Requiem, conducted by Ferenc Fricsay well.

As a composer, Borg wrote several instrumental pieces, including two symphonies, and vocal music, including its own setting of the Stabat Mater.
