Kim Christiansen

Kim Christiansen ( born May 8, 1976 in Drammen ) is a Norwegian snowboarder was mainly as a freestyler in the halfpipe, and later in the slopestyle active.

Career

Kim Christiansen began early with the sport of snowboarding and decided at sixteen to become pro shred. He had his first international appearance at the Snowboard World Championships 1997 in San Candido with a thirteenth place. Until then, he had not participated in any races in the FIS World Cup. In the World Cup he made his debut in November of the same year in Tignes seventh. Already in the following January, he made ​​his first and only victory, again in San Candido, directly followed by a second place the next day. Together with another points finish (Rank 17) in Whistler filed a total of 2300 points for the third discipline World Cup Halfpipe Patz in the 1997/1998 season, meaning 30th place in the overall World Cup. This remained his best results in the overall rankings of the World Cup.

In the premiere competitions in snowboarding at the Olympics in Nagano 1998, he participated as one of four Norwegians - the others were Daniel Franck, Klas Vangen and Roger Hjelmstadstuen - in the halfpipe competition part. He finished in 20th place among 36 starters, it won Gian Simmen of Switzerland, ahead of his compatriot Franck.

After a serious injury Christiansen started in the 1999 season with ISF races and World Championships. In qualifying for the Halfpipe Snowboard World Championship in 1999 in Val di Sole, he took second place, but could be in the final place only as the 16th and last.

Because of the qualification for the Olympic Games in January 2001, he came back in the FIS World Cup and signed up with a fourth place back in Kronplatz in the tip. His next race - at the world championship - he won and it was also the biggest success of his career, he became world champion in 2001 in the halfpipe.

In the World Cup of the season 2002 Christiansen graduated only two FIS races, where he finished third once. In February, he was again a member of the Norwegian Olympic Team. This time, he was the second best Norwegian Fourteenth, his best finish at the Olympic Games.

Only in the 2003/2004 season Christiansen was active again in the World Cup, at the end of the season were two top- ten finishes and number 23 in the World Cup discipline to book. The following season began for him with a podium finish in third place at the World Cup in Saas -Fee. This placement he repeated in January in Whistler at the World Championships in 2005. It remained his last great success, he could once again place in a race of the Nor -Am Cup in the top ten. His only 2006 race was the halfpipe competition at the 2006 Olympic Games in Bardonecchia, as 41 he was unable to repeat previous results.

In Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour Christiansen joined since 2003 to a total of five races. Here he succeeded in slopestyle two eighth places. In the halfpipe and quarterpipe he could place in the top twenty. It organizes itself as a qualification race for the Ticket to Ride World Tour. He also started in the slopestyle and was able to achieve a victory. It organizes so-called " Old Boys" snowboard competitions and championships, where he competes, he won the 2008 example, a race on the moguls. Together with Terje Håkonsen he organized the end of 2004 a snowboard event in aid of the tsunami victims in the Indian Ocean.
