Kim Johnsson

Kim Johnsson ( born March 16, 1976 in Malmö ) is a former Swedish professional ice hockey player who played 1999-2010 for the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League.

Career

Johnsson comes from the offspring of the Malmö Redhawks and was in the season 1993/94 his debut for the first team of the club in the Elitserien. During the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 was selected to total 286 instead of the New York Rangers. However, he remained until 1999, when the Redhawks and established himself as a reliable defender.

Between 1999 and 2001 he completed two NHL seasons with the Rangers before he was released in August 2001 together with Jan Hlaváč and Pavel Brendl to the Philadelphia Flyers. In return, the Rangers Eric Lindros received. During the lockout in the 2004/ 05 NHL season he went for HC Ambri -Piotta in the Swiss National League A on the ice.

After four years in Philadelphia Johnsson signed on 1 July 2006 a four- year contract with the Minnesota Wild. Shortly before the end of the Trade Deadline, he was transferred in 2009/ 10 to the Chicago Blackhawks. With these he won at the end of the season for the first time in his career, the Stanley Cup. A concussion, however, prevented him from contesting the last 14 games of the regular season and the entire playoffs, which is why his name was not engraved on the trophy. Due to persistent dizziness symptoms he ended his career in the summer of 2010.

Internationally

Johnsson took part in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City for Sweden. He also contested the U18 European Junior Championships in 1994, the World Cup in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002 and the World Cup of Hockey 2004. Doing so, he won the 1998 gold medal and three bronze medals.
