Kim Sung-hwan (politician)

Kim Sung- hwan ( born April 13, 1953 in Seoul) is a South Korean politician and diplomat and former foreign minister of South Korea.

Biography

Kim Sung- hwan graduated from Seoul National University, Economics and London Slavic and East European Studies. In 1988 he entered the diplomatic service. From 1994 to 2002 he held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. From 2002 to 2005 he was ambassador to Uzbekistan. From 2005 to 2006 he was Deputy Minister of Planning in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, 2006-2008 Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna. In March 2008 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, October 8, 2010 Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He succeeds the retiring Yu Myung- hwan, who was accused of nepotism. On March 11, 2013, was superseded by Yun Byung- se.

He belongs to the Saenuri Party and is the father of two daughters.
