Kimmeridge

Kimmeridge is a small village with Bay on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset on the south coast of England.

Location

Kimmeridge is about 6 kilometers south of Wareham, about 4 kilometers south-west of Corfe and 8 km directly west of Swanage. It is about 20 km southwest of the big cities Poole and Bournemouth.

From Orcombe Point at Exmouth in the west to the Isle of Purbeck in the east extends a stretch of coast that has been declared as the first natural landscape in England by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Kimmeridge Kimmeridge Bay and are part of the Jurassic Coast, which is one of the natural wonders of the world and is known for its fossils. The slate - rock wall Hen Cliff is located at the eastern end of Kimmeridge Bay, are incorporated into the numerous fossils.

Geology

The term Kimmeridgian was introduced by Jules Thurmann 1832. It involves the Latinized name of the village Kimmeridge. The Kimmeridgian is a stage of the Upper Jurassic ( Malm ). It is bounded below by the Oxfordian, up through the Tithonian.
