Kinetoplastid
The Kinetoplastea (also Kinetoplastida ) form a class flagellated supporting single-celled organisms ( flagellates ); they belong to the Euglenozoa. Many kinetoplast are parasites.
Description
The Kinetoplastida have a single large mitochondrion in which the so-called kinetoplast is located: a large amount of fibrillar DNA ( kDNA ), which is often closely related to the base of the flagellum.
Ecology
Many kinetoplast are parasitic, such as the nature of Trypanosoma brucei, a parasite in humans that causes sleeping sickness. Carriers is the tsetse fly here. Another man dangerous, Kinetoplastenart is Trypanosoma cruzi, which causes Chagas disease ( See also: trypanosomes ).
System
Traditionally, the Kinetoplastea were divided into two suborders Bodonida and Trypanosomida. Adl et al. divide based on new findings, the group as follows:
- Prokinetoplastina with Ichthyobodo and Perkinsellia
- Metakinetoplastina Neobodonida
- Parabodonida
- Eubodonida
- Trypanosomatid
