King Biscuit Time

King Biscuit Time is an American radio show, which is sent from KFFA in Helena, Arkansas since 1941. She is one of the oldest radio broadcasts in the United States.

History

The station was founded in November 1941 offered bluesmen on a timeline when they allowed a sponsor. This was the sponsor Interstate Grocer Company, the King Biscuit Flour sales. So the show got its name. On November 21, 1941, the King Biscuit Time first went on the air. It was with these words: open "Pass the biscuits, cause its King Biscuit Time ". The first broadcast was from Sonny Boy Williamson II ( Rice Miller) and Robert Lockwood Jr. denied that formed the core of the studio band, the " King Biscuit Entertainers " was called. Around this core were grouped different musicians. Sonny Boy Williamson left the show in 1947, but returned in 1965 shortly before his death. King Biscuit Time was about 15 000 times sent, surpassing other shows like the Grand Ole Opry and American Bandstand. Influence

The broadcast can be heard throughout the Mississippi Delta and inspired great blues musicians like BB King, Robert Nighthawk, James Cotton and Ike Turner.
