King Clancy

Francis Michael "King" Clancy (* February 25, 1903 in Ottawa, Ontario, † November 8, 1986 in Toronto, Ontario) was a professional, Canadian ice hockey player (defender), coach and umpire, for the 1921 to 1937 the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League played. According to him the King Clancy Memorial Trophy is named.

Career

His father, an outstanding football player, was the first "King" in the family and Francis inherited the name from him. It was not the statistics that reflect its role in the game, it was his leadership qualities that have it.

1921 brought the Ottawa Senators him in their squad and he quickly became a star in the team. Despite his slight build, he played very physical and walked no dispute out of the way, even if he offers are often drew the short straw. In the two Stanley Cup victories in 1923 and 1927, he was one of the pillars of the team.

In 1958 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
