King Edward VII Land

Geographical location

The Edward VII Peninsula (also King Edward VII Peninsula and King Edward VII Land) is an Antarctic peninsula in the northwest of Marie Byrd Lands. Northeast of the ice-covered peninsula is the Sulzberger Bay, and the south followed by the Ross Ice Shelf. The farthest into the Ross Sea jutting point and at the same time the easternmost point of the open Ross Sea is Cape Colbeck ( the Siple Coast located further south extends further to the west, but is covered by the Ross Ice Shelf ).

The Edward VII Peninsula was discovered on 30 January 1902 by the British Discovery Expedition led by Robert Falcon Scott, who named the area after King Edward VII. That it is a peninsula at the Edward VII Land, during the second Antarctic Expedition Richard Byrd ( 1933-1935 ) was noted.
