King (pigeon)

The King Pigeon is a domestic pigeons breed.

Origin

The story of King pigeon starts in the U.S. state of New Jersey where in 1890 Harry Baker bred a fruitful big, strong and yet visually beautiful dove. As appropriate to the breeds for breeding he took the " runt " because of their body shape and size, the "Duchess " because of their elegant posture, the Maltese pigeon because of their chicken -like shape and the Homer Pigeon for their vivacity and fertility. He gave her the name "King" in order to bring the size and elegance of expression.

In 1895 he sold his breeding to William McMahon and Harry Troth, which continued the breeding led over several years. They made it the reputation of the king pigeon in the United States to increase. During this time, they sold numerous King pigeons, which had at that time still only the color white. A buyer was Eugen G. Giroux. He was not just a fancier but a pigeon fanatic. Together with his brother he began breeding the white king pigeons and built it within a very short time to several thousand animals. His intention was to make the king dove as a meat supplier advantage. Through his work and the establishment of the "White King Squab Company" ( White King contest - Club ), he laid the foundation for the increasing popularity of the "White King" in the United States. In March 1915, the "American White King Association " was founded by breeders who saw action in the advancement and recognition of King pigeon as a race pigeon. From the initial nine founding members end of the year were 44 members. Even in the first year the first year book was published, in which the "Standard of Perfection ( 1915) " was described for the first time. At the same time the white king other breeders were busy to breed a Silver King, which are now referred to as Brown Fahl. A pioneer in the breeding of silver - Kings was C. Ray King from California. He worked in 1919 a standard out, which was approved by California Pigeon Club, and so paved the way for the Silver - Kings. Two years later, at the fifth annual meeting in California, the name of the "American Association White King " in " American King Club " (AKC ) has been changed and revised the standard again. Thus, the breeding of new color varieties, nothing stood in the way.
