Kingfield and Dead River Railway

The Kingfield and Dead River Railroad is a former railroad in Maine (United States). It was first established on 19 June 1893 as a subsidiary of Franklin and Megantic Railroad and built a railway line in 610 mm track gauge of Kingfield after Carrabasset. The opening of the 16.1 km long stretch was made in 1894. Operations management was for the Franklin and Megantic Railroad, whose own route joined in Kingfield. After financial problems bought on August 2, 1898, the entrepreneur Josiah S. Maxcy the railway company of the Franklin & Megantic. That same year, the 9.6 km long extension after Bigelow was put into operation.

On January 30, 1908, the merger with Franklin and Megantic Railway and the Sandy River Railroad was. The new company operated under the name Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad. The route of the former Bigelow - Kingfield Kingfield & Dead River Railroad was shut down and dismantled until 1935.
