Kingfisher County, Oklahoma
Kingfisher County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Kingfisher.
Geography
The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Oklahoma and has an area of 2346 square kilometers, of which 8 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Garfield County, Logan County, Canadian County, Blaine County and Major County.
History
Kingfisher County was formed in 1890 as an original county. It was named, as well as the district capital, after the Kingfisher Creek, which flows through the county. The County was settled by white settlers during the first official land ownership acquisition (Oklahoma Land Run ) on April 22, 1889.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Kingfisher County 13,926 people in 5,247 households and 3,893 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 88.09 percent White, 1.59 percent African American, 3.02 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 4.34 percent from other races groups; 2.74 percent were descended from two or more races. 6.90 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,247 households, 35.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.2 percent were married couples living together, 8.0 percent were single mothers. 25.8 percent were non-families, 23.5 percent of all households and 12.0 percent of households had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.08 persons.
27.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.2 percent between 18 to 24, 26.8 percent between 25 and 44, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.4 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 36,676, and the median income for a family was $ 43,242. Males had a median income of $ 30,918 versus $ 19,819 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,167. 8.5 percent of families and 10.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
