Kingman County, Kansas
Kingman County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Kingman.
Geography
The County is located in southern Kansas, is located about 40 miles from Oklahoma and has an area of 2245 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Reno County, Sedgwick County, Sumner County, Harper County, Barber County and Pratt County.
History
Kingman County was formed on March 7, 1872. It was named after Samuel A. Kingman, a presiding judge of the Supreme Court ( Supreme Court ) of Kansas.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Kingman County 8673 people in 3371 households, and 2,420 families in Kingman County. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.45 percent White, 0.21 percent African American, 0.58 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.35 percent from other races groups; 1.15 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.44 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3371 households out of which 32.4 percent of children under 18 who lived with them. 61.9 percent were married couples living together, 7.1 percent were single mothers and 28.2 percent were non-families. 26.0 percent of all households were single-person households and 13.8 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.03 persons.
27.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 5.8 percent 18 to 24 years 24.7 percent between 25 and 44, 22.5 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 19.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 adult women 18 years and older 93.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 37,790, and the median income for a family was $ 44,547. Males had a median income of $ 31,771, women $ 25,298. The per capita income was $ 18,533. 8.4 percent of families and 10.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
