Kingston Canadians

The Kingston Canadiens were a Canadian ice hockey team from Kingston, Ontario. The team played from 1980 to 1988 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League ( OHL ).

History

The Kingston Canadians were founded in 1973 as a franchise of the Ontario Hockey Association, after junior Canadien de Montréal came about a year earlier in the QMJHL. Then threatened the QMJHL the OHA with litigation, so that the leagues change would not be reversed. To solve this problem Canadien junior de Montréal received a one-year suspension for the OHA. During this time the franchise of the team from Montreal changed its name in Bleu - Blanc- Rouge de Montréal.

The freed by this change leagues franchise was reactivated by the OHA as Kingston Canadians after 1973 and received a new owner. From the previous team of junior Canadien de Montréal only the name component " Canadians ", as well as logo and team colors were borrowed, legally and sporty, there was no longer any connection between the two franchises. In the year 1980, when the Ontario Hockey League was formed, and the Kingston Canadians were included in the new league.

The Canadians were on the sporting level only moderately successful, so its greatest success in the OHL was reaching the playoff quarterfinals. After a series of 28 consecutive defeats in the season 1987/88 and only 14 wins from 66 games ( 28 pts) was sold the franchise in the summer of 1988 and renamed Kingston Raiders.
